Lamarissimo! presents holiday choir concert Sunday in Jefferson

The Lamarissimo! Concert Series will usher in the holiday season with performances by the Lamar University Grand Chorus and A Cappella Choir at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, in the Jefferson Theatre.
Conducted by Michael Peters, director of choral activities, the choirs will perform music of the masters, as well as new pieces and arrangements of traditional favorites. The program will include carols from Germany, France and Catalonia, as well as a Southern folk hymn and an English folk song. The concert also will feature student soloists and a special appearance by the Cardinal Singers.
Serving as announcer will be Regents’ Professor L. Randolph Babin, retired chair of the Department of Music, Theatre & Dance and director of choral activities emeritus. Faculty artist Betsy Hines will play the piano for the audience sing-along.
The concert is part of the 2008-2009 Lamarissimo! season-ticket package. The season tickets, $40 for adults and $20 for students, as well as Lamarissimo! gift certificates, will be available at the theatre box office beginning at 2:15 p.m. Dec. 7. Patrons also may purchase individual tickets, $15 for adults and $10 for students. Admission is free to students of Lamar University in Beaumont with valid LU identification.
