To kick off Lamar University’s 2008 celebration of Red, White & You, the Lamar Office of Alumni Affairs will host a reception Thursday, March 27, at Sanderson’s Restaurant, 2095 U.S. 69 N. in Nederland.
The event – from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. – will feature entertainment by President Jimmy Simmons, performing with a jazz ensemble.
“We hope all our alumni and friends – especially those in mid-Jefferson County – will come celebrate the important relationship between Lamar University and the community on this, Lamar’s 85th anniversary,” said Juan Zabala, director of alumni affairs.
The reception will feature appetizers and a cash bar.
Simmons’ performance will preview the Jimmy Simmons & Friends Encore concert – the highlight of Lamar’s 2008 Red, White & You festivities. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. May 3 in the Montagne Center, showcasing the talents of more than two-dozen alumni musicians from across the country. Simmons – who taught and mentored many of the musicians – will perform and lead the jazz performance.
Those planning to attend the mid-county reception are requested to RSVP at (409) 880-8921 or online at Alumni@Lamar.edu.
Tickets to Jimmy Simmons & Friends Encore will go on sale March 17 and are also available at the Lamar University Office of Alumni Affairs, 880-8921.
