The Lamar University Department of Communication will host its fourth annual “Public Relations Professionals Series” over the next few weeks, and invites the public to share in presentations by established public relations professionals.
"This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in what public relations professionals do to meet three very different PR practitioners, learn about their backgrounds, the demands they face, and the issues they confront daily,” according to Paul Hemenway, professor communication, who will host these guests in his LU Introduction to Public Relations class, and is opening these special evenings to everyone on campus and in the community.
Tuesday, Oct. 20, Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau Marketing Director Stephanie Molina will discuss the challenges of handling public relations for an organization devoted to tourism in Southeast Texas and the “selling of Beaumont.” The CVB is in the midst of a Southeast Texas tourism campaign and is preparing for the new downtown redevelopment.
Tuesday, Nov.3, Art Museum of Southeast Texas Public Relations Coordinator Melissa Tilley will discuss the challenges of public relations for an arts-oriented nonprofit organization. AMSET will celebrate its annual Eat A Bug! event at their Family Arts Day on Halloween.
Tuesday, Nov. 10, ExxonMobil’s Beaumont Public and Government Relations Manager Kathleen Jackson will discuss the challenges of handling regional public affairs for one of the world’s largest corporations. ExxonMobil is partnering with other major petrochemical companies now building the new Sabine Pass LNG plant (expected to open in 2010).
Guests in the Series will present from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Room 103 (the theater) of the Communication Building, across from the post office and police station on the Lamar University campus off MLK Boulevard in Beaumont.
