The Lamar University Finance Association was named a Financial Management Association International 2008-2009 “superior chapter” for the fourth consecutive year. This is the highest honor a financial management or honor society can attain.
In order for this accomplishment to happen, the organization had to fulfill certain criteria, which included having eight speakers, inducting members into the Finance National Honor Society, and keeping a resume book and website. Of the more than 200 active student chapters, fewer than five percent receive this honor each year.
FMA International has also recognized five Lamar University students for their meaningful contributions to their chapter and college throughout the year: Natasha Stanley of Kountze, chapter president; Pinkee Patel of Port Neches, secretary; Jaret Chapman of Lumberton, vice-president; Grant Blankenship of Beaumont, webmaster in public relations; and Aaron Bonvillion of Sour Lake, programs vice-president.
In addition to the students’ achievements, Thomas H. Thompson, Finance Association faculty advisor and an assistant professor of finance at Lamar, was named a Superior Faculty Advisor by FMA International. He was consistently recommended by the chapter and his faculty head director for the past three years.
Thompson was quick to deflect credit from himself, saying, “It’s up to the students to maintain the superior rating. I just advise them. It’s hard work. We overcame two hurricanes, but we were able to maintain our organization.”
