Kaitlyn Clark, a senior chemistry major graduating in August, presented her work on "Thermo-Optical Characterization of Organic Verdazyl biradicals."
"Undergraduate reearech improved my grades by a full letter grade," said Clark. "Because you have those ah-ha moments, where you are sitting in class and think, 'Oh, I understand this; I did this in my research.' In research, you’re able to apply hands-on methods that you don’t have in a lecure class. Things make more sense because you can theoretically put it together with what you're doing in class."
Clark, who was awarded the Student Undergraduate Research Fellowship in the summer of 2019, plans to get her masters at LU and then work on her Ph.D. and go into medicine, all the while continuing her research.
