The "LU Drums and Front" is a new age description that recognizes both halves of the LU marching band percussion section in the title of the group. LU is proud to utilize a front ensemble as well as a full sized field drumline. The group is comprised of music majors and non-music majors alike.
There are four steps to joining the Marching Band Percussion for Fall 2024. They are listed below with corresponding links.
Note: Rhythm Section players such as bass guitar, electric guitar, synthesizer, and drumset ARE considered a part of the Front Ensemble. However, these sections ARE NOT currently included in the audition process below. For Fall 2024, Dr. Shannon and Dr. Maultsby will work together to determine these performers based on Commitment Form sign-ups. Any placement auditions for these instruments will be handled on an individual basis at the live auditions August 10-12.
Step 1: Complete your Marching Band Commitment Form:
Step 2: Download the Audition Packets for your preferred instruments (below), then follow the instructions in the packet and record your Pre-Screen video(s). Upload the videos to YouTube and then complete the Pre-Screen Video Submission Form (Step 2).
Priority deadline for preferred instruments is June 1, 2024. However, we will be accepting videos until July 31, but priority given to those who meet the deadline. Videos must be submitted before coming to the Audition Mini-Camp in August.
Step 3: Sign-up for the Summer Audition Experience Clinics (more information about these is below, and also in each audition packet).
Dates / Times:
June 22: 9:00am – 4:30pm
July 20: 9:00am – 4:30pm
Location: Wiley Rehearsal Hall, Simmons Music Building on LU Campus
LU Drumline Experience Clinics are designed to help those seeking to audition for the LU Drumline (Battery + Front Ensemble).
Clinic participants will gain exposure to the overall approach, vocabulary, repertoire, and technique of the Battery and Front Ensemble, which will greatly strengthen their chances of a successful audition.
