    • Academic Affairs Committee – Completed a major negotiation with Elsevier. Waiting on one institution to sign on.  Looking to re-evaluate how copyright works for some of their materials.  They will have workshops in the spring to look at this.  They would like librarians and faculty to attend.  If you are interested, please let Mike know.  Virtual 1-2 workshops ½ to 1 ½ day each time.
  • Renovation – Looking at major renovation for library. IT, STARS, Writing Center will stay, additional units may be added such as digital learning, math lab, advising. Event center will remain on 8th floor.  Several days of workshops were conducted by the consultants with library personnel to discuss what the buildings future needs may be.  The Renovation committee then met in October for updates.  The next step is for the consultants to meet with executive leadership.  Hoping to have call for architects in spring.  It looks to be a 5-year project.
  • Resources – found under database tab on the Mary and John Gray Library webpage, archival collections added. American Crime and Criminal Justice, which contains articles about crime in America 1700-1800’s, Black Life in America and Hispanic Life in America (both have articles from 1700-present). Statista is a collection of statistical resources, can be copied into a presentation.  Sage Research Methods, walks thru research processes/methodologies.  Texshare is a consortium that has many resources.  Under their new contract they will remove access to several EBSCO databases including Academic Search Complete and Business Source Complete and replace them with new databases from Gale and Proquest.  TexShare will provide access to EBSCO until August 31, 2023.  Academic Search Complete and Business Source Complete are heavily used and will no longer have thru Texshare.  Gale will have resources that we did not have before.  Current plan is to find the money to renew at least one more year (after August 31, 2023) EBSCO holdings.
  • Collections – As part of the renovation planning the library has been asked to assess our physical collections. Michael shared information from several surveys presented to faculty and students over the last six months as well as data from the previous Libqual+ survey and usage data.  A large portion of the collection has not circulated in the last ten years.  With all of this in mind, the library is currently looking at a 20% reduction of the circulating collection.  That number may change.  More details will be shared as they arise.  The faculty will have a voice in the process.  A question was asked about what happens to books that are weeded.  Michael stated that the library would have to follow state rules for discarding materials.
  • Libqual+ Survey – will run from mid-February end of March. It is completed every other year.  This will be the third iteration since 2019.
  • Wassail – November 29th 9:00-11:00
