OLD BUSINESS:
A spreadsheet with the inventory of all parking lots will be distributed. All priority lots are listed at the bottom of the second page. Committee was favorable to the priority list attached to these minutes. See Spreadsheet file.
NEW BUSINESS:
Hand out the MARCH APPEALS and asked to return them to Diane Drawhorn’s 0ffice on or before APRIL 26, 2019. Mark Broome brought up that he noticed a lot of the appeals deal with students who were cited for parking in the C-1 Senior Student Lot. Discussion was open to the committee and it was suggested that Diane Drawhorn send out a communication via Black Board to all students reminding them that they cannot park in the C-1 lot between the hours of 7:00 AM to 12:00 Noon unless they are a senior with 105 hours. Also there was some discussion regarding student’s complaints regarding G-2 Lot being full and students parking on the grass and street. It was noted that there are other lots in the area that are available.
The Parking Advisory Committee will communicate with Planning & Construction regarding the need
For canopy’s in pick up and drop off areas to allow for inclement weather protection.
Discussion from the committee regarding additional sidewalks and jogging/walking pathways. This
Need to be communicated to the Planning and Construction department. This would require working
With TXDOT and City of Beaumont for some right of way and easement access. See new Interoffice Memorandum attached.
UPDATE: Lamar University (Planning & Construction) has requested participation from the City of Beaumont for jogging/walking pathways from Jim Gilligan Way (Florida Ave) to Jimmy Simmons Blvd. (University Drive) to MLK Pkwy.
Additional Comments from committee:
Chief Flores discussed the possibility of removing the iron post gates and removing them on the roads that access Gentry and Morris Halls along with the entry roads to Monroe and Campbell. Chief Flores said he considered the roads to Gentry and Morris the most important.
The committee was also updated on Busses parking in the C-1 lot when bringing students from surrounding area schools to events in the Setzer Center. It was noted that the event planners have been informed that busses were NOT to park in C-1 after delivering passengers to the Setzer Center. After drop off the busses are to park in the A-2 or A-5 athletic lots. The bus drivers can be notified by cell phone when the attendees are ready for pick up. Diane Drawhorn asked the Police to monitor Busses parking in C-1 and have the Campus Safety Officers tell the buss drivers to move out of C-1 and park in A-2 or A-5.
