University Accessibility Committee May 10, 2018

Suggested changes for committee:

1.      Name change. To promote a more positive, proactive approach and perspective, we recommend changing the name to the Accessibility Committee.

2.      Membership changes.

a.      Removals. We recommend removing the Staff Council representative and the Customer Support Service representative.

b.      Changes. Dr. Shannon Hicks as representative for Student Health Center, Dr. Sherry Wells as representative for Digital Learning, Dr. Ashley Dockens as representative for Speech and Hearing Sciences, Natasha Walker as representative for Records.

c.       Additions. Ex Officio: Tom Conley, Sr. Director of IT Project Planning; Reggie Deal, Academic Advisor; Rachel Hoover, Director of STAR Services; Imelda Wicks, Executive Director Global Diversity and Inclusive Excellence; Shellie Richter, Director of Enterprise Applications and Integration; Erin Tabor, Assoc. Director Disability Resource Center; Jeff Bell, Director of Human Resources.

d.      Representatives from other campus departments when expertise is needed to explore or implement a recommended project.

3.      Recognize revised mission of committee.

a.      Mission Statement: The Accessibility Committee’s members, also known as Access Partners, will be a diverse representation of university departments and organizations working together to meet the needs of the entire university community. The committee will use the following as a guide:

                                                              i.      Encourage: inclusive design of all environments, products, and experiences to ensure full access for all people interacting with Lamar University.

                                                             ii.      Advance: The University’s strategic goal of enhancing access to educational programs and student services.

                                                           iii.      Act: In an advisory capacity regarding inclusive and accessible programs and policies.

                                                           iv.      Advocate: For University community members with disabilities

                                                             v.      Educate: By increasing awareness of disability-related issues
