Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Hyatt is the Assistant Professor of Art Education at Lamar University where she instructs preservice art educators and supervises student teachers. Dr. Hyatt’s teaching practices and research emphasize the visualization of the liminal spaces, which illustrates the vulnerable conditions of working teachers and artists as they mediate the convergence of space, place and identity within the permeable boundaries of institutional heterotopias.

Her research methodologies include arts-based inquiry, narrative inquiry, critical pedagogy and ethnography. Dr. Hyatt has published in national and international journals.

Currently, Joana serves as the Chair of the PLR Working Group under the NAEA Research Commission, and on the Editorial Review Board for Art Education, The Journal of the National Art Education Association.
