Top Three Keys to Networking
Top 3 Keys to Networking
1. Talk
Be approachable and treat everyone with respect and interest. Everyone knows everyone in this industry. You never know what connection could help you get a job. Understand dance history and key people in the industry to show that you are informed about your career. People talk, so ask yourself the question, “What do I want people to say about me?”
2. Log
When you meet someone, remember their name, possible title, and an interesting fact about them you can recall. The more knowledge you have, the more people come to you for a point of contact. When someone asks if you know someone who can sing and dance (if that’s not you), then you can refer someone from your long list of connections.
3. Pay It Forward
Give attributes to people you have worked with in the past for a possible connection. Posting videos and photos on social media and giving credit to the choreographer, photographer, lighting designer, costume designer, etc., connects you with everyone those people have worked with in the past.
