Nominate a First-Gen Student of the Month!

Being first-generation is something to be proud of!

Do you know a first-generation student who deserves to be recognized? Nominate them for First-Gen Student of the Month!

Students will be chosen by the Strategic Initiative Advisory Committee with decisions based upon information submitted through this nomination form. Selected students will be featured each month through campus announcements and the Office of Strategic Initiatives website.

First-Generation Connections strives to:

  • engage, empower and encourage all students, in particular those who are first-generation, to be successful at Lamar University
  • ensure that students have the needed resources and information to persist to graduation

The Office of Strategic Initiatives is the hub for celebrating, supporting, and assisting first-generation students in navigating their higher education journey. At Lamar University a student is considered first-generation if neither parent or guardian earned a bachelor's college degree in the United States. Over 50% of our students identify as first-generation.
