Growing up does not mean abandoning the things you enjoy about your life. You can still explore your passions from high school as a college student!
Greetings! My name is Michael Vu, and I am a Presidential Scholar and Reaud Honors student majoring in Human Resource Management with a minor in Business Law. I appreciate you taking time to read my story as an example of how I stayed true to my passion as an undergraduate at Lamar University.
I graduated from Little Cypress - Mauriceville High School in Orange, where I was a drum major in the LCM Band, the Student Council vice president, in the Debate club and UIL Academics, and a Theatre Productions student. The extracurricular that I remain most passionate about is theatre. After I graduated, I almost gave it up. Then I auditioned for “Newsies” at Port Arthur Little Theatre. As I finished the show, I knew I wanted to continue performing.
The Reaud Honors College has provided me the support and the ability to access two local theatres, Port Arthur Little Theatre and Beaumont Community Players, as Cardinal Village is only a 10-15 minute drive to each of these theatres. I have also been able to train in dance at Mariposa School of Dance.
The memory skills and ability to think and learn quickly that I am developing while performing have helped me succeed in my classes. Performing on stage is an activity that coincides with the skillsets all my Reaud Honors peers possess: adaptability, teamwork, fellowship, and kindness.
Being a Reaud Honors Cardinal is very rewarding, as I was blessed with the opportunity to showcase my honors work in theatre at Honors Scholars Day. The honors faculty and staff have been invested in me from the start of my college career here at LU.
Follow YOUR passions! Join our welcoming community of scholars!
