LU to confer 1807 degrees May 22 and 23
Lamar University will confer 1807 degrees at spring commencement ceremonies May 22 and 23 in the Montagne Center. The times for the ceremonies for each college are as follows: College of Arts & Sciences, Friday, May 22, 7 p.m. in the Montagne Center. Stephen Doblin, Lamar University provost, will deliver the keynote address.
All other college ceremonies will be held on Saturday, May 23, in the Montagne Center. The times and speakers are as follows: College of Engineering, 8:30 a.m., L. Dwayne Layfield, a 1987 Lamar graduate and attorney, will be the keynote speaker; College of Business, 11 a.m., Carmen Jordan, the Houston market president for Iberia Bank and a Lamar University graduate, will be the keynote speaker; College of Fine Arts & Communication, 2 p.m., Russ Schultz, dean of the College, will deliver the keynote address and the College of Education & Human Development, 5 p.m., Valerie Segovia, the outreach and development director of the Nuclear Power Institute at Texas A&M University will speak.
Graduates hail from 19 countries, 32 states outside Texas and 306 cities and towns in Texas. Lamar will award 1807 degrees to 1790 graduation candidates – 47 for doctorates; 955 for master’s degrees and 805 for bachelor’s degrees. Doctorates include 32 in educational leadership, two doctor of engineering, four doctor of education in deaf studies and four doctor of philosophy in chemical engineering and five doctor of audiology.
Seventeen students will earn various multiple degrees.
