LU television gets boost from City
Lamar University television will get a significant boost from the City of Beaumont with its approval of $263,000 to purchase new equipment using Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) Access Channels funding.
“We are grateful to the City of Beaumont for being a great partner with our department and Lamar University,” said O’Brien Stanley, chair of the Department of Communication. “It is our goal to provide our students with a quality education through hands-on experience with industry standard equipment. Thanks to the City of Beaumont we are able to do just that.”
LUTV-7 programming includes student and faculty films and artworks, documentaries, student-produced newscasts, university events and distinguished lectures centered around history, sociology, politics and more, said Clinton Rawls, LUTV-7 Broadcast Programming Manager. The funding will enable the university to continue to upgrade the LUTV-7 studio and expand its broadcast journalism and film/video areas. “This funding will also help us keep up with growth in the department,” he said.
“In addition, LUTV-7 has begun to branch out and report on stories in the City of Beaumont as our students have begun to explore opportunities for stories in their community,” Rawls said.
The technology of video cameras and video production equipment is rapidly changing, Rawls said. The funding will allow the department to replace aging equipment and expand capabilities, Rawls said. “This funding will allow our faculty to teach with up-to-date tools so our students can learn the skills necessary to enter the workforce and contribute right away,” he said.
“These tools will enhance the work Lamar creates for years to come,” Rawls said.
