Campus to celebrate Earth Week

LU’s Office of Sustainability will observe Earth Week April 18-22 by hosting sustainability-related campus events and a video contest to promote the cause.

The Student Sustainability Video Contest allows students to compete for cash prizes by submitting a 5-minute video about sustainability topics such as recycling to the LU Green Squad Facebook. The deadline for submission is April 21 at noon, and winners will be announced the following day with a first place prize of $750, second place prize of $500, and third place prize of $250.

Campus events begins April 18 with a learning session about the Big Thicket National Preserve at 11 a.m. on the 6th floor of the Mary and John Gray Library. On April 20, LU will host an Earth Fair in the Quadrangle 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. where student organizations can exhibit or sell products made from recycled items. On April 22, Chef Stephen Gary from Chartwells and others will prepare food and share recipes with foodies at the LU Tasting at 11 a.m. in the Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall.

Interested students are also encouraged to join in the digging at the LU Community Garden on Arbor Day, April 29 from 4 p.m.- 6 p.m.

Earth Week will advance LU Sustainability’s mission to strengthen campus initiatives and participation in sustainability efforts, encourage the efficient use of resources and expand community outreach.
