New scholarship for accounting, HR established
Lamar University recently finalized the new Jean L. Spitznagle Scholarship in Human Resources or Accounting, to first be awarded in fall 2017. The scholarship will help fund the education of students in either major as they pursue their studies.
The scholarship was established as a tribute and honor to Spitznagle on her 80th birthday for her years of service to the Beaumont community.
Spitznagle lived in Beaumont and worked for Gulf States Utilities Company/Entergy Corporation, primarily in the payroll and human resources department, for 35 years. She was highly involved at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and dedicated her time in various positions. Spitznagle also volunteered for the Beaumont Charlton Pollard High School Booster Club (now Central High School).
Spitznagle attended Lamar University for two years with the aspiration to earn a degree in accounting, and her two daughters and their husbands all graduated from LU. The Spitznagle family wishes for the recipients of the scholarship to also have an inclination to serve the community and to help others in need as Spitznagle has done throughout her life.
The scholarship recipient must be a full time student studying for a B.B.A. in Human Resource Management or Accounting, and he or she must maintain a 3.0 GPA. The opportunity is open to all undergrad students with a special preference for those with genuine financial need.
