A big band holiday with the Cardinal Jazz Orchestra on Nov. 28
Lamar University’s Cardinal Jazz Orchestra will perform classic and contemporary big band music and fresh arrangements of holiday classics with the Nederland High School Jazz Ensemble on Monday, Nov. 28. The free concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Nederland ISD Performing Arts Center.
The Nederland High School Jazz Ensemble, directed by Jimmy Frasier, will open the concert with “Sleigh Ride,” “My Favorite Things” and “Good King Wenceslas.”
The Cardinal Jazz Orchestra will perform music planned for their upcoming performance in New Orleans at the eighth annual Jazz Education Network Conference in January. They will also play new arrangements of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “Carol of the Bells.”
“We love to do joint concerts at this time of year because there are some very nice seasonal arrangements that can only be done now and that are familiar to the public,” said Rick Condit, associate professor in the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music and the orchestra’s director. “We hope to help everyone get in the mood for the holidays.”
The Performing Arts Center is located at 2101 18th Street in Nederland. For more information, please call the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music at (409) 880-8146, or visit lamar.edu/music.
