New pre-veterinarian scholarship established
The Lamar University Foundation recently established the Shanna B. and Robert L. Alspaugh Regents Scholarship for Pre-Veterinary Studies thanks to a gift from Bob Alspaugh of Orange in memory of his late wife Shanna.
Shanna Alspaugh was born in American Fork, Utah, in 1956. She worked as a business process analyst at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Beaumont. During her career with Goodyear, she attended Lamar University, earning a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in 1991. In 2000, she earned a Master of Education in counseling and development.
She and her husband, Bob, were dedicated to all areas of dog rescue. It is because of this love of animals that he has endowed this scholarship to support students pursuing a career in veterinary medicine in her memory.
The scholarship will support two students per academic year who are pre-veterinary and actively working in the Lamar University Pre-Professional Program. The College of Arts and Sciences offers several pre-professional programs for students planning careers in law or in one of the primary health care delivery areas: dentistry, medicine, optometry, pharmacy, physical or occupational therapy, physician’s assistant, podiatry, or veterinary medicine.
