Department of Theatre and Dance opens season with Luna Gale

The Department of Theatre and Dance will open its season with the performance of “Luna Gale,” Oct. 3-6 in the Studio Theatre, located on the campus of LU. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday matinee Luna Galebegins at 2 p.m.

“Luna Gale,” written by Rebecca Gilman and directed by Carolyn Johnson, is the story about a veteran social worker who thinks she has a typical case on her hands when she meets Peter and Karlie, two teenage drug addicts accused of neglecting their baby. But when she places their infant daughter in the care of Karlie's mother, Caroline sparks a family conflict that exposes a shadowy, secretive past and forces her to make a risky decision with potentially disastrous consequences.

“I'm pleased to be back working with the Lamar University students for a third year and doubly pleased to be working with them on this beautiful, complex piece. The writing is compelling and top-notch, providing a unique insight into the worlds of child protective services, addiction, bias and, ultimately, the inherent grey areas of being human,” said Johnson, who returns to the department as a guest director.

Tickets for “Luna Gale” range in price from $7-$15 and can be purchased at lamar.edu/theatre. This production contains mature content and themes.
