Celine Do, advisor of the Vietnamese Student Association was presented the award for Advisor of the Year during a “Toast to Leadership” award ceremony at Lamar University on April 7.
The Outstanding Advisor award is named in honor of the late Dr. Melvin Brust, an emeritus professor and advisor to the Finance Association and Students in Free Enterprise at Lamar University. The award is given to an advisor who has shown outstanding dedication, service and support to an organization and its members.
“Do has made significant contributions to the idea of what it means to be a student organization advisor,” said Todd Shaver, executive director of the Setzer Student Center and Recreational Sports. “For Do, advising the Vietnamese Student Association is not just a hobby. She has gone above and beyond to ensure that VSA is successful and has continuously provided her time and expertise.”
Do was a member of the Vietnamese Student Association while she was a student at Lamar University and was happy to step in when the club needed a new advisor. She attends meetings occasionally and is extremely helpful in making sure this organization has successful events. She truly cares about every student in the club and gives everything she can to the club.
In nominating Do, one member wrote, “She deserves this award for her passion, energy and commitment to seeing this organization become the best that it can be.”
