A student’s time at LU will be full of unforgettable moments and the greatest of these is the day they graduate. It is Lamar University’s honor to celebrate this milestone with our graduating seniors and congratulate them on this great accomplishment.
LU will confer more than 2,200 degrees during three commencement ceremonies. The College of Arts & Sciences will hold their commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 13. The following day at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, the colleges of Business, Engineering, Fine Arts and Communication and undergraduates of the College of Education and Human Development will hold their commencement ceremony. The College of Education and Human Development will confer master’s and doctoral degrees at 3 p.m. All ceremonies will take place at the Montagne Center.
“I would like to congratulate our graduates of the Class of 2022. As we confer your degrees, we honor you for your passion and dedication. We also hope you remember that Lamar University will always be your home,” said Dr. Daniel Brown, associate provost for academic and faculty affairs. “Your future awaits.”
In addition to the on-campus commencements, Lamar University will host a virtual ceremony for those who cannot attend in person. All ceremonies will be broadcast live, but those who elected to participate virtually will be honored during the 10 a.m. ceremony on May 14. In December 2021, 320 students participated in commencement exercises virtually. The broadcasts were watched by more than 5,000 viewers from more than 43 countries around the world.
“We want to ensure that every student has an opportunity to celebrate this significant accomplishment with their family and friends,” said Poonam Kumar, associate provost for academic affairs and digital learning. “With more than half of our student population taking courses solely online, a virtual option was something we felt was a positive addition to an already joyous event.”
