The
Texas Parent Teacher Association recently named the
2022 Outstanding Educator Award recipients and among them is Beaumont Independent School District superintendent and LU Distinguished alum Dr. Shannon Allen, who was recognized as “Superintendent of the Year.”
The Texas PTA assists PTAs across the state in building their community through programs that promote student achievement, creativity and inclusiveness. Yearly, the organization requests nominations for “educators who truly back the future of every child in their communities.” Allen was selected from 300 nominations at the elementary, secondary and district levels throughout the state of Texas.
Texas PTA President Suzi Kennon said in a statement released by the district in early June, “It is the privilege of the Texas PTA to highlight the people who work tirelessly in the public schools of our state to make a difference. We believe that student success is best promoted through collaboration between parents, families and teachers – that’s exactly what these administrators and educators help make a reality every day.”
Allen was nominated by West Brook High School PTA President Michelle Rasa who praised BISD’s first female superintendent for her “every moment matters" motto.
“Dr. Allen’s motto is ‘Every Moment Matters.’ She has stressed this throughout the district with students, parents, faculty and staff. The initiatives she puts forward throughout the district have this underlining theme of taking advantage of the moments we have with these students both in and out of the classroom. No moments are wasted. When we were hit with the pandemic, rather than focusing on the negative or trying to do just what it takes to get by, she doubled down on her motto, sharing that now ‘Every Moment Matters-Beast Mode.’”
Allen, along with all 2022 award recipients, will be recognized at the Talk of Texas Luncheon on July 30 during the PTA’s annual convention in Grapevine.
