'Lamar university has set me up for great success': Incoming freshman shares her experience as an international student

New year. New faces. Welcome home, class of 2026! It's a whole new world for incoming freshman who joined the Cardinal family this fall. Tioluwaniiyin Akiwunmi, an electrical engineering major from Abeokuta Nigeria, shares what she's most excited about during her journey here at LU. 

Q: Why Lamar University? 
A: Lamar University is a good university that provide great opportunities for student. As an engineering student and an international student, Lamar university has set me up for great success both academically and socially. At LU, events such as career fairs  and networking, are provided to enhance your professional life. The educational standards at Lamar University are very high and competitive giving me the ability to thrive more everyday

Q: In your opinion, what is the best thing about Lamar University? 
A: The best thing at LU to me is the educational standard of the university.

Q: How has your experience at LU been so far? 
A: My experience has been so good and competitive so far.

Q: What are you most excited about for the start of the fall semester? 
A: I'm looking forward to taking a new step forward into achieving my dream
 
Q: What are you most nervous about? 
A: I'm most nervous about how stressful the process may be during my time here.

Q: Anything else you would like to add? 
A: At Lamar University, there is a diversity of cultures. It's a place where different people from different countries come together to learn. It's amazing.
