The LU Department of Theatre & Dance is proud to announce the final production of the semester, "Dance Unleashed," the spring faculty dance concert, on April 28 at 7:30 p.m. and April 29 at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
"Dance Unleashed" features the Lamar University student company of dancers. The audience can expect to see a variety of dance styles performed by Lamar University student company. Jazz, Modern, Tap, Ariel Silks, Contemporary, and more will be featured in this once in a lifetime dance concert choreographed by LU dance faculty and guest artist Kiera Amison of Muscle Memory Dance Theatre.
Kiera Amison is the artistic director of Muscle Memory Dance Theatre, a company that strives to push the boundaries of performance in the usage of dance as a communicative art form. Beginning as a company member of Muscle Memory Dance Theatre in 2007, Amison strives to be ‘Smart, Human, Physical, and Fresh.
Choreographing several pieces in this concert, Associate Professor of Dance Travis Prokop states: “Having an example of yourself in art we consume, like dance, is important because it allows the observer to relate to the character being portrayed on stage. Dance is about not fitting in, inviting the audience to view the beauty in the composition of the art and making you smile, think, laugh and groove.”
All performances will be held in the University Theatre between the Dishman Art Museum and the Jimmy Simmons Music building on the campus of Lamar University.
Tickets range in price from $7-$15 and are available at lamar.edu/lutdtix.
