Tyler Peterson has taught U.S. and world history courses in Texas, Colorado, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. His research interest is the history of the U.S. space program, particularly the astronaut corps. In addition to his first book, A Fire to Be Lighted: The Training of American Astronauts from 1959 to the Present (Apogee, 2017), Dr. Peterson has publications in Humanities and Social Sciences Online (H-Net), Quest: The History of Spaceflight Quarterly, and the East Texas Historical Journal. In 2024, he appeared in the Historians at the Movies podcast to discuss the movie, The Right Stuff.
