The minimum admission requirements for podiatry schools in the United States include an earned bachelor’s degree with the following:
9 semester hours of English composition and literature; 3 semester hours of mathematics; and 8 semester hours of general physics. In addition to these minimum stated prerequisite courses, many podiatry schools also recommend upper division science courses such as cellular biochemistry, molecular biology, comparative anatomy, and quantitative analysis.
For the student who intends to finish a baccalaureate degree in four years and afterward enter directly into professional school, the pre-podiatry curriculum must be completed by the end of the junior year of college. Podiatry schools are stressing a broad, general training at the undergraduate level, and admission committees are seeking for applicants who have demonstrate research, volunteer, and shadowing experiences that reflect intellectual curiosity and the potential for leadership in the profession.
