Grace Nicholson, B.A.

Grace Nicholson is a graduate student completing her MA English in the Department of English and Modern Languages. She has previously held other positions within the department as administrative support, though she is best known for her role in student life as President of Sigma Tau Delta, International English Honor Society. She is dedicated to student success and academic improvement, especially related to all things English and writing. She has previous experience in peer review, workshop forums, and a composition internship within the department. In her spare time, you can find Grace reading, writing fiction, and drinking coffee.

"Hi, it's nice to meet you! In the photo, that's me on the left. I work at the front desk, so if you come into the Writing Center, I am one of the first people that you see! I am bilingual in writing and speaking English and Spanish. I'm working on being trilingual by majoring in ASL Interpreting. I am a beginner, but I can sufficiently communicate with Deaf students as well! I will always be happy to assist you in any questions that you may have for the Writing Center, and we all look forward to working alongside with you to make your LU experience even better!"

"My name is Harvest, and I work at the Writing Center's front desk. My duties include helping you match and meet with a coach and making sure you get all the support you need! A little bit about me: I am an undergraduate junior majoring in speech and hearing science and my favorite and am an avid student researcher."

Chatman
"I have been working at the Writing Center since the summer of 2012. My areas of expertise are to help deaf/hearing students improve their English writing skills and critical thinking skills; also to help students understand and execute their assignments more successfully. I am proficient in MLA and APA and well-versed in Chicago Style. I am a proficient ASL user and have the capability to provide communication access to deaf students in ASL.
For hearing students: I am Deaf, and I have tutored numerous hearing students, from undergraduates to doctoral candidates. I communicate with hearing students via MS Word, text on Class via Blackboard, or any form of text. Some hearing students communicate with me in sign language or ASL."

"Hello! I am an English major at Lamar who loves writing and collaborating with students on their projects. Outside of working on English papers, I also enjoy writing creatively through fiction and poetry. I am particularly skilled in writing in the MLA style, though I am working towards becoming more familiar with other writing styles such as Chicago and APA. I hope to have the chance to work with you!"

"Hi, I'm Felix. I am currently a graduate student at Lamar University pursuing an MA in English. Though it sounds cliche, I absolutely adore writing. In my downtime, I enjoy writing both nonfiction and fiction, and I also write poetry. As for academic writing, I am well-versed in MLA and APA writing formats, and I have dabbled in Chicago style, as well. I am most experienced with analysis and research essays, but also have experience with reports and other types of writing. I know some basics of ASL and Spanish, as well. I look forward to working with you!"

"I am a graduate student studying for my MA English at Lamar University, and writing has always been my passion. Working in the Writing Center is another way for me to express my passion for literature while also helping other students. I am most familiar with MLA and APA. If I am not in the Writing Center, I am usually still writing or reading. My brain is always turned on creative mode!"

"I am a student at Lamar majoring in English. Ever since I was a kid, I knew I was passionate about writing, reading, and all things literature. I love reading fiction as well as contemporary poetry. I am proficient in using MLA specifically, and I am aspiring my hardest to become more familiar with using APA, Chicago, and other scholarly styles. Furthermore, I love helping people produce ideas, as well as offering encouraging feedback, and alternative approaches to constructing an essay. My goal ultimately is to assist students with their essays, guiding them toward being able to fully express the main idea or thesis of their paper. Working at the writing center is a privilege and a passion, the environment is always positive. It's exciting working here, I get to do one of my favorite hobbies: reading."
