Applying to the MBA Program

Prospective graduate students should submit all admissions materials at least 30 days prior to the start of the semester in which they wish to begin studies.  Upon receipt of all university-required documents, the Admissions Office will forward your file to your desired academic department for an admission decision.

Application Deadlines

Domestic

Domestic applications must be received 30 days before fall, spring or summer registration.

International

The international applications must be received by the following dates:

Fall Term (August)

  • Priority Deadline: April 15
  • Final Deadline: July 1

Spring (January)

  • Priority Deadline: September 1
  • Final Deadline: December 1

Summer (June)

  • Priority Deadline: January 15
  • Final Deadline: April 15

Required Applications Materials

  1. An admissions application completed online through the Apply Texas system.
  2. Official transcripts from each college or university attended, including the accredited institution from which the applicant earned a bachelor’s degree.
  3. Scores from GMAT or GRE. The GMAT and GRE are administered by the LU Career & Testing Center. Scores may not be more than five years old.

International Students

International graduate applicants must have an official report of course-by-course evaluated transcripts of all post-secondary work sent to Lamar University directly from one of the evaluating agencies listed in the previous link. Lamar University does not evaluate transcripts internally, so you do not need to send official transcripts to our office. Admission Requirements

Our formula for determining admission takes into account your undergraduate GPA and your score on the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) or GRE (Graduate Record Examination).

(GPA x 200) + GMAT (or GMAT equivalent of GRE) score = 1,000

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Lamar University has changed admissions policies for students applying for Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 terms.

  • GRE/GMAT is temporarily waived (until further notice) for MBA and M.S. MIS applicants with at least a 2.5 GPA
  •  Separate application for GRE/GMAT waiver is not necessary
  • GRE/GMAT testing options are available remotely
  • Automatic admission for Applicants with a GPA of 2.5 or higher from their last 60 hours of undergraduate or combined undergraduate/graduate coursework

GMAT Waiver

The GMAT or GRE may be waived for applicants with a minimum 3.0 GPA, OR 3 or more years of increasing professional and/or managerial experience (with a minimum 2.5 GPA).

Types of adminssion

Traditional MBA

A traditional MBA consists of six hours of leveling courses (dependent on undergraduate curriculum), 21 hours of core courses, and nine hours of concentration courses. To be entered into the program, you must first meet the general university requirements for admission. In addition, all students must take the GMAT to be accepted in the MBA program.

The GMAT or GRE may be waived for applicants with a minimum 3.0 GPA, OR three or more years of increasing professional and/or managerial experience (with a minimum 2.5 GPA).

Pre-MBA

The pre-MBA program allows you to take up to nine hours of graduate level coursework to apply toward your MBA before you take the GMAT. In order to qualify for pre-MBA admission, you must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA. *After completing your nine hours you must submit an acceptable GMAT score to fully enroll in the MBA program.

Certificate Programs

Graduate certificate programs allow you to take up to 12-15 hours of study counting towards your MBA before you take the GMAT. You must meet the general university requirements for admission.
