Draft Neches Reginal Flood Plan Public Meeting

The meeting led by Judge Jeff Branick and other members of the Neches Regional Flood Planning Group (NRFPG) and its technical consultants from Freese and Nichols.  Public welcomed to come to this informational meeting for comment and input on the draft Neches Regional Flood Plan.

Lamar University Social Work host Domestic Violence Simulation at LU! 

"In Their Shoes"

A simulation based on the experiences of real survivors, participants engage in a simulation in which they walk in the shoes of the various characters experiencing abusive and controlling relationships

 

Speakers included

Dr. Jaime Taylor, Associate VP for Student Engagement Dr. Hector Flores, Sgt. Yvette Borrero of BPD’s Criminal Investigations Division, Family Violence Unit, Executive Director at Family Services of SETX Ms. Deborah Tomov, Program Director of Jefferson County’s Victim’s Assistance Ms. Misty Craver, Director of Immigration Services at Catholic Charities of SETX Ms. Alma Garza-Cruz, and Keynote Speaker Judge Randy Shelton of 279th District Court.

Thank you again to all of the professionals who showed up as well as Mrs. Roebuck and Mr. Broome from the Criminal Justice Department for supporting the Social Work Department in this simulation. We are extremely grateful for each and everyone of you!

7/14 - The Center makes an appearance at the Gift of Life Unite Texas.


8/2 - The Center becomes affiliated with Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD), an information exchange network for pre- and post-disaster response.

8/4 - The Center becomes affiliated with Southeast Texas Coalition for the Homeless (SETCH) Program, a collaborative dedicated to ending homelessness in Hardin, Jefferson, and Orange Counties.

The Center becomes affiliated with Texas Department of Public Safety's (TXDPS) Public Information Officer (PIO) Coalition.

8/16 - The Center establishes four Engineering with Nature (EWN) courses at Lamar.

8/17 - The Center hosts presentations at the Provost Kick-Off.

8/25 - The Center joins the social media sphere!

9/6 - The Center hosts its first annual research project showcase.

10/4 - The Center joins the North American Alliance of Hazards and Disaster Research Institutes (NAAHDRI).

10/5 - The College of Business holds a luncheon and presents research funded by the Center.

10/19-20 - The Center holds a roundtable to discuss flood data with various government entities.
