Application and Admission

To apply to the Lamar University Dietetic Internship with the Master of Science in Nutrition program, you must participate in the national application through the Dietetic Internship Centralized Application System (DICAS).

Dietetic Internship Application Requirements

  1. Applicants must have completed or show plans to complete an ACEND-accredited didactic program in nutrition and dietetics (DPD) and have at least a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university before beginning the program in August.
  2. A minimum DPD GPA of 3.0 is required for application. Inadequate performance as an undergraduate may be compensated through evidence of an above-average graduate GPA in nutrition coursework. The program accepts up to six hours of graduate nutrition coursework towards electives in the M.S. in nutrition program.
  3. Applicants must complete an application in DICAS. Successful candidates for up to 10 positions will be notified via email (jekillough@lamar.edu).

Admission Requirements

An applicant matched to the Lamar University DI/M.S. does not warrant admission to the university. Applicants who have been offered a spot to the program must apply to Lamar University and be fully admitted before the first class day of class in August. An applicant matched to the DI/M.S. must apply to the university as a graduate student in the M.S. in nutrition program.

Completion of the LU M.S. in Nutrition program or a previous master's degree is required for the completion of the Dietetic Internship/M.S. program. The application process for graduate admission to the university is outlined on the Lamar University. The department admission requirements for the Master of Science degree are:

  • Candidates for admission must meet all the admission requirements of the College of Graduate Studies and specific departmental requirements and approval.
  • Undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.5 (institutional bachelor’s degree)
  • International students should also consult the Office of International Studies for admission requirements to the university.

Prior Learning Experiences

The Lamar University dietetic internship program does not accept prior learning experience or direct assessment for any dietetic internship rotations or supervised practice experience hours.

Up to six hours of applicable NUTR graduate credit courses completed prior to the DI/M.S. program can be transferred to the M.S. in nutrition program for two of the three elective courses with approval by the Office of Graduate Studies.
