To complete online and hybrid courses, dietetics students are required to have:
- A PC with at least 2GB of RAM (4GB recommended)
- High-speed or broadband internet connection
- Working webcam, microphone, and speakers
- Windows 7 or higher
- Microsoft Work 2007 or higher (Microsoft Office is free to all Lamar University students from IT Services and Support's Free Microsoft Office 365 page.)
- Most recent version of Mozilla Firefox
Some courses require specific software packages and/or subscriptions to online services (check course syllabi before classes begin).
Minimum Computer Skill Requirements
Students are required to have basic computer skills in order to be successful in class. Additionally, they should feel confident about their ability to navigate through typical websites and their ability to use common word processing software in order to submit written assignments and complete proctored exams.
Minimum skill requirements include:
- Navigating websites, including downloading and reading files
- Using email/course messaging, including attaching and downloading files
- Saving files in commonly used word processing formats
- Copying and pasting text and other items in computer documents
- Saving and retrieving documents and files on your computer
- Locating information on the internet using search engines
- Locating information in the library using the online catalog
