Andrew McMahan

Associate Professor

Andrew McMahan is the director of bands and associate professor of music at Lamar University. He teaches courses in conducting and music education, and serves as the artistic director and conductor of the Wind Ensemble. He also oversees all ensembles under the purview of the Lamar University Band Program, including the Symphonic Band, Jazz Orchestra, Basketball Pep Band and Marching Band.

Prior to his appointment at Lamar University, McMahan served as the director of bands and associate professor at Cal Poly State University, a position he held from 2010-2017.

Eric Shannon

Eric Shannon

Director of Athletic Bands
Associate Professor

Eric Shannon is director of athletic bands and an associate professor of music at Lamar University. He directs the University's marching band, known as the "Showcase of Southeast Texas," as well as the Symphonic Band, Basketball Pep Band, and serves as Audition and Admission Coordinator for the Music Department. He also teaches Conducting I and II and the Marching Band Techniques course. Dr. Shannon recently served as a LU Faculty Senator for the 2020-2022 term.

Reese Maultsby

Reese Maultsby

Director of Percussion
Assistant Professor

Multi-faceted artist and percussionist Maultsby is enjoying a wide range of success throughout his career as an educator, performer, and composer. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Percussion at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX where he oversees all aspects of the percussion studio and band program percussion. 

Before earning his DMA from the University of Texas, Maultsby received two bachelors degrees in both music education and percussion performance from Central Washington University, as well as a masters degree from James Madison University. His primary mentors and instructors are Mark Goodenberger, Casey Cangelosi, Dr. Thomas Burritt, and Ivan Trevino.

During his doctoral studies, Maultsby was the arranger and instructor of the battery percussion for the Longhorn Marching Band at the University of Texas at Austin.

Logan Banister

Logan Banister

Director of Jazz Studies, Applied Saxophone
Assistant Professor

Logan Banister is a classical and jazz saxophonist, woodwind doubler, and educator. As a classical saxophonist, Logan has given performances around the world at the World Saxophone Congress, North American Saxophone Alliance Conferences, and at Steinway Hall in New York City. As a jazz and commercial musician, Logan has performed throughout the United States and Europe with world-renowned artists including Ingrid Jensen, Andy Middleton, Keith Anderson, and BEATBoX Saxophonist Derek Brown. Logan also performs frequently in musical theater pit orchestras on saxophone and woodwind doubles.

Logan previously served as Assistant Professor of Music at East Texas Baptist University where he taught courses in applied woodwinds, music theory, arranging, woodwind methods, and directed the ETBU Jazz Ensemble. He holds degrees from the University of Colorado Boulder, Baylor University, and Oklahoma Christian University.
