The Lamar University Department of Communication and Media is committed to the goal of ethical communication. The goal of ethical communication ties to the overall goals of social responsibility (and its related competencies—such as diversity, intercultural, and civic engagement—and the related areas of focus) and communication. Ethical communication is at the heart of effective and honest human exchange.
We will engage the students with learning that involve communication and understanding with regard to the design of effective messages for human exchange.

Lamar University Department of Communication and Media students will be able to apply critical thinking and analysis to communication theories, principles and concepts.
To develop an active and dynamic sense of the concepts of the core component of media literacy, Lamar University Communication and Media students will be able to apply critical thinking and analysis to the core principles of media literacy.
Upon completion of the B.S. in Communication at Lamar University, students will be able to create communication messages that adapt to diverse cultural contexts that demonstrate an understanding of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and other forms of diversity within a global society.
