The University Press, Lamar’s student newspaper, is an award-winning publication with a reputation for excellence. The newspaper is distributed across 47 locations around campus, as well as on the web at lamaruniversitypress.com.
The UP is a member of the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association, and also competes in competition at the Press Club of Southeast Texas, Houston Press Club, Associated Press and Society of Professional Journalists. University Press staffers, hailing from nearly 50 countries, have averaged more than 28 awards a year since 1976.
Directed by Andy Coughlan, the UP is part of the College of Fine Arts and Communication and is published weekly during long semesters.
