Percussion Festival

The Lamar University Percussion Studio is thrilled to host the Lamar University Percussion Festival on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

This festival will feature a large array of clinics, workshops, and concerts featuring two special guest artists. Geared towards aiding high school and middle school percussionists in the “Golden Triangle of Texas” with a solo competition component, the festival will also feature a final showcase concert, free and open to the public.

Festival Information

When: Saturday, March 11, 2023

  • Closing Showcase Concert at 4:30 pm in Rothwell Recital Hall
  • Solo Competition Entry Deadline: March 7, 2023

Where: All events located in Rothwell Recital Hall and Wiley Rehearsal Room in the James M. "Jimmy" Simmons Music Building (Map and Directions)

What: All things percussion, all day! Clinics, workshops, prizes, contest, & showcase concert. 

Who: You! Featuring guest clinicians Dr. Chad Floyd and Michael Cheng.

Cost: FREE festival admission for all middle-school, high-school percussionists and educators.

Solo Competition Fees and Deadlines:

  • Categories: High School Keyboard, High School Snare/Marching Drum, Middle School Keyboard, Middle School Snare/Marching Drum
  • Entry deadline: **March 7, 2023**
  • Prizes for all competition participants
  • $25 per solo
  • Limited slots available
  • Lamar University can provide all large percussion equipment. Schools are responsible for providing all mallets and sticks.
  • Winners may perform on final showcase concert
