Facilities

Lamar University has a variety of dedicated performance spaces:

  • 500-seat University Theatre
  • Flexible, black box Studio Theatre that seats approximately 100
  • Two dance studios

Instruction is supported by an acting lab with a Marley floor, a drafting and computer lab equipped with both Macs and PCs, and scenic and costume shops as well as a box office.

The University Theatre

A 500-seat proscenium theatre used for large musical and other theatrical productions, dance concerts, university-wide speaking engagements, fundraisers, and music events. It includes:

  • Spacious lobby
  • Two dressing rooms
  • Costume shop and storage
  • Scenic shop
  • Paint shop and
  • Loading dock

The space is equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system.

The Studio Theatre

A flexible seating space commonly called the Black Box. The open space of approximately 60 feet x 60 feet is able to be configured into:

  • Proscenium
  • Arena
  • Thrust
  • Other arrangements

An intimate space for performances, this theatre houses primarily theatrical productions, including student-directed works.

Dance Annex

Scene Shop

The Dance Annex

This large, newly renovated open space is configured primarily proscenium, with a state-of-the-art Morley floor and sound system. Classes, workshops, master classes, and smaller dance recitals and concerts are held and performed here.

The Scene Shop

Students receive a hands-on education in scenic and prop construction in this fully functioning wood shop.

Green Room

The Green Room

The Green Room is the area for performers before, during and after a performance or show when they are not engaged on stage.
