Newly Admitted Students

Texas-Academy-Students

You've been admitted to TA, now what?

We are so excited that you have chosen to make Texas Academy part of your journey! We are sure you are asking, what do I do now? Here are a few need to knows!

If you have any questions, please contact us at texas.academy@lamar.edu.

STEP 1: ACCEPTANCE TO LU

Once you receive your TA acceptance, your next step is to apply to the university. Here is how to do it!

Go to www.applytexas.org and complete the following steps:
  1. Create an account or login
  2. Select 4-year institution, Lamar University, Undergraduate
  3. Select Texas Academy as your major
  4. Submit your application!

Note: You DO NOT have to pay the $25 processing fee -- select fee waiver, or check/money order. TA students pay their fee when applying to the Texas Academy.

Once you have completed this we will receive your admissions notification within a few days. We will already have your transcript, and will send that in on your behalf. If you have not submitted official test scores, please go to collegeboard or act and submit these to Lamar University.

STEP 2: ADMISSION FORMS

Once you have received your Lamar University Acceptance Letter you will be able to access your Lamar University email account, and Self Service Banner (SSB) with your Lamar ID (L20123456) and your LEA (bigred1) Please do this as soon as possible. For instructions on how to access your LEA please click here. If you are unable to access please contact the Lamar University Service Desk at servicedesk@lamar.edu, or 409-880-2222.

All students will have a checklist of items to complete. The ONLY two items that are not currently on this list are the Student/Parent Handbook Excerpt, and the Invitation Policy. We review both of these during the summer and make adjustments/updates if necessary. These will be emailed to you directly once made available.

NEW STUDENT FORMS

Please note: ALL new students will need to request a final transcript from their previous high school. These transcripts can be mailed to Lamar Unviersity Admissions, or hand delivered to the Texas Academy. Official transcripts cannot be opened by the student. If hand delivering, please do not open prior to drop off.

STEP 3: MENINGITIS VACCINE

Once you receive your LU acceptance letter, you will need to provide proof of the meningitis vaccine, or a waiver signed by a physician to the university Records office. This is a requirement for all students. Please do this as soon as possible. We cannot register you for classes without it. Here are further instructions on how to submit.

STEP 4: COMMUNICATION

We have 3 platforms we utilize for communication. GroupMe, Remind, and Email.

All Administrative communication will come from Email or Remind (if needed).

Student GroupMe accounts (used by Student Council, Clubs, etc.). Please join the ones that apply to you!

STEP 5: SAVE THE DATES

New Student Orientation for Lamar University: (Register Here) All students (parents can come too), will need to attend this. This event is run by Lamar University staff and students. There are multiple date options available, you can choose the one that is most convenient for you. This is going to help you learn some of our systems, about tutoring, and will give you the opportunity to explore and hear from university organizations and academic departments.

Please note:

  • You do not need to pay the fee — close out of that screen when it appears. If you choose to go to lunch at the Dining Hall or Student Setzer Center you will need to pay that cost, but there is no NSO fee for TA students.
  • You also DO NOT need to attend the advising session. You’re advised here in TA with our Academic Counselors. Do not panic if you do not receive a schedule - we make your schedule, not the Undergraduate Advising Center.
  • TA Students receive a scholarship – unless you plan to take out Financial Aid, there is no need to attend that session either.
