Multi-faceted artist and percussionist Maultsby is enjoying a wide range of success throughout his career as an educator, performer, and composer. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Percussion at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX where he oversees all aspects of the percussion studio and band program percussion.

Before earning his DMA from the University of Texas, Maultsby received two bachelors degrees in both music education and percussion performance from Central Washington University, as well as a masters degree from James Madison University. His primary mentors and instructors are Mark Goodenberger, Casey Cangelosi, Dr. Thomas Burritt, and Ivan Trevino.

During his doctoral studies, Maultsby was the arranger and instructor of the battery percussion for the Longhorn Marching Band at the University of Texas at Austin.

Prior to his experience in Texas, his students at A.C. Davis High School (WA) won best percussion at the WSU Marching Band Championships in 2018 as well as first-place in the large percussion ensemble category of the 2019 Washington State Solo and Ensemble Contest. Shortly after, he served as the Lecturer in Music for percussion at Washington and Lee University (VA), then Assistant Instructor at The University of Texas.

Professionally, Maultsby has played drum-set on cruises across the world with Holland America Lines, served as a percussionist with the American Festival Orchestra during the China and Mongolia tour, and is a founding member of the recent chamber group The Austin Percussion Collective.

He has continually been involved with the marching arts as a teacher and arranger, working with groups like the Columbians Drum and Bugle Corps, Jeff Chambers Music, and multiple high schools and universities throughout the country.

The University of Texas Percussion Ensemble has premiered recent compositions of his, and he is continually writing solo, chamber, and ensemble works for himself and others.

Outside of percussion, you can find him rock climbing, disc golfing, or enjoying some espresso at a local coffee shop!
