H. Colleen Silva, MD, FACS is a Beaumont native and a Lamar University graduate with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology with honors. Following graduation from Lamar, she went on to medical school at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston. She completed her training as a general surgeon in Chicago and then completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She is currently a UTMB Professor of Surgery and the UTMB Director of Breast Cancer Services. Dr. Silva is also the current Chief of Staff elect for the medical dental staff of UTMB. Prior to returning to Galveston and UTMB in 2007, she held positions as the Medical Director of Surgical Oncology at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, was the creator and Medical Director of the Liberty Women's Wellness Center, a comprehensive breast center in New Jersey and was a staff breast surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
In addition to her surgical responsibilities at UTMB, Dr. Silva is the Co-Chair of the School of Medicine Admissions Committee. She teaches surgical skills to third and fourth year medical students, physician assistant students and general surgery residents and leads small groups for first year medical students and fourth year medical students in the Practice of Medicine course. She has 20+ years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases and has been named a Texas Super Doctor by Texas Monthly annually since 2016.
