Mark Toups, M.D., F.A.C.P., practices in the local community of Beaumont, Texas as a private Internist with patients in a continuous practice beginning in 1980. Dr. Toups has served as Medical Director for network development and Medical Home for Christus SETX from December 2011-2019 and Medical Informatics Experience 1984-current.
Dr. Toups has managed a private Internal Medicine practice from 1980 until the present with the implementation of all communications and systems from billing to EMR including hardware design, building, and maintenance of both hardware and software. Dr. Toups has extensive daily experience in both the practice of medicine and coordinating information of a variety of formats into manageable, sharable patient care tools.
His initial electronic information investigations and teaching began in mid 1980's with a program at UTHSC-Dallas, Parkland for students, residents and attending physicians. The program used both lectures and traditional medical rounding to teach medical literature searching methods including structured MEDLINE queries of information as a bedside tool. This was for two years before his home practice circumscribed travel and teaching opportunities.
The many leadership roles Dr. Toups holds include HIESETX Exploratory Board (2011), Greater Houston Health Connect (HIE) Board Member (2012-current), Physician Liaison for Informatics for Christus SETX (2012-2019), Vice President of Medical Affairs for Christus SETX (2018-2019), and Regional Director of Clinical Informatics Christus Health (2019-current).
Dr. Toups received his bachelor's degrees in biology and chemistry from Lamar University in 1973, Medical Doctorate from UTHSC-Dallas in 1977, Internal Medicine Internship and Residence at Parkland, Dallas, TX in 1980, and Epic Physician Builder in 2019.
