Principal Certification

Please do not apply for certification until all requirements below have been met:

  • Completion of all coursework required for master’s degree and “Certification Only” program
  • Must have a conferred master’s degree
  • Passed the TExES 268 Principal and PASL exam with the Texas Education Agency (TEA)
  • Completed practicum
  • Hold a valid classroom teaching certificate and have two creditable years of teaching experience as a classroom teacher

When all requirements have been met each candidate must apply with both Lamar University and Texas Education Agency (TEA) for the Principal Certification.

TExES Principal 068 Test Takers

  • Must have passed the TExES Principal 068 exam by 8/31/2019
  • Must have ompleted all program requirements, coursework and internship by 8/31/2019
  • Hold a valid classroom teaching certificate and have two creditable years of teaching experience as a classroom teacher
  • Apply for certification to be recommend by 10/30/2019
If the requirements for Principal 068 are not met by the deadlines, students will have to take the Principal 268 and PASL under the “New” requirements for the Principal 268 and PASL exams.

How to Apply for Principal Certification

  1. Complete the Graduate Certification Application.
  2. Attach your service record signed and stamped from your school district reflecting two or more years of teaching experience
  3. Attach a valid Texas Educator Certificate.
  4. Click "Submit."
  5. Complete the online application with the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
  6. Choose "Standard Applications and University Based" as entity.
  7. Once your Approval to Graduate Certification Application is received, verified and approved you will receive an email confirmation from the Texas Education Agency that you have been recommended by Lamar University.

Because of the high volume of applicants, the certification process can take approximately eight weeks from the time your application is received and all requirements are verified.
