‘Both my parents were professors at Lamar University. After I graduated from South Park High School in 1983, I joined Lamar and was there for a year or two. I left Lamar and went back in 1987-88. I got into the associates degree in registered respiratory therapy program. It was the first year that program was being offered at Lamar. I graduated in 1990 and went off to work for the old Baptist Hospital where HEB is. I worked the night shift there for 10 years. I went back to school and started on my teaching degree. So, I got the B.S. in teaching in 2000. The two degrees have helped me economically to get where I am now. I went into teaching, networking. Never had a problem getting a job. Lamar is an excellent university, our parents always told us, growing up. I always stress, go to Lamar. Definitely more affordable. The campus has grown, it is beautiful.’
