‘I attended Lamar from 1982 through 85. Basically, you know I was local. So, everybody in my area knew about Lamar University. I was good friends with somebody whose father taught at Lamar university. And they offered me a scholarship, you know that helped. I got an education so that I could get a job and, support whatever lifestyle I chose and support my family. So, the most positive thing is that Lamar gave me a foundation in education to stay employed.’

‘I had good grades, so, I had options but then I didn't have full scholarships everywhere. Lamar gave me that and I liked the commuter option. I think it still probably has a large commuter population. They had a pretty good size then. One of the things that people used to say is well, it's a little easier to get into Lamar than like some of the bigger certainly Ivy League or other colleges. But it still has a very rigorous program that was accredited, so getting in is one thing, getting out with your degree is different. So, when I was offered the scholarship, I thought it was a great opportunity and it was exactly what I wanted and needed. And I enjoyed the campus. I was only in one organization which was basically a honor society for accounting and finance. But I still spent plenty of time in the center in between classes playing cards and meeting people. So, it was a real positive experience for me.’
